Galerie Fischer, Lucerne, Swizterland, August 30, 1937, lot 1666.
Marijke C. de Kinkelder of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague, suggests that the period of dated works for Jan Coelenbier, 1640-1646, can be extended if 1649 is in fact the original date of this work.

Frame rubbing. Scattered craquelure. Light surface dirt. Panel is cradled on the reverse. Minor spots of inpainting along the lower left edge as well as in the lower part of St. Joseph’’s robe. Nothing further visible under UV light. Condition commensurate with age.
