Annibale Caracci print/Aguttes, Paris sale “Livres Anciens et Modern,” 3 July

Lot 11: Aedium farnesiarum tabulae depictae a carolo caesio aeri insculptae atqué a Lucio Philarchaeo explicationibus illustratae. estimate 600-800 EUR

This calls for a closer examination first hand, as it appears to be from a book printed in 1753, a century and a half after the artist’s death, alongwith a description of some of the pages from the book it is in being “tanned.” Nevertheless, it looks to be of interest, linked to the renowned Annibale Caracci, a key member of the famed family of Carracci artists that resided in Bologna during the late 16th and early 17th century. As works by grand names become more scarce, here is an example of an under recognized Master whose work can be picked up for a bargain-bin price.
